Booking Your Session
Throughout the year I am typically booked about 4-6 weeks in advance. For a list of available session dates and times, you can check the calendar, then let me know of your desired date/time when you contact me. Please keep in mind that I start booking fall/Christmas sessions in August, and I’m closed for the month of December.
Sessions take place at a location of your choice: my detached home studio or outdoors in your favorite setting, such as a park, the beach, or even a beautiful yard. Outdoors I utilize natural light, which gives a wonderful quality to your portraits. Outdoor sessions have the best results when done during the 2 hours following sunrise or at about 2 hours before sunset, so please keep in mind when scheduling your outdoor session that it will be early morning or late evening. Sessions can be scheduled mid-day, and the best locations at that time will be those that have available shaded areas. I will also only schedule sessions on weeknight evenings and on weekends (when I’m available from dawn to dusk). *Please keep in mind that if the location of your choice requires a fee for photography sessions on the property, then the client is responsible for paying those fees.*
Clothing choices should be kept simple. You should avoid clothing with logos and busy patterns. For families I suggest colors that compliment each other. Fun and vibrant colors also work great, especially with babies and children. Going barefoot is a popular choice for a timeless look, but if you choose to wear shoes that will be shown in the portraits, please be careful of your choice in shoewear, as nothing dates a portrait as much as shoes. When planning for a newborn session, I suggest both parents having a black top to wear.
During the Session
It is my goal to make your session as relaxed and enjoyable as possible for you and your children, therefore I allow approximately 1-1.5 hours to effectively capture as many moments as possible (sessions may last as little as 30 minutes when possible). I understand that breaks may be necessary for feedings and diaper changes, and you are welcome to change into several outfits during the session.
After Your Session
Your proofs will be available for viewing within 1-2 weeks from your session in a password protected gallery accessible through this site, and will be available for viewing for 4 weeks. Prints will be delivered within 1-2 weeks from the date your order is received. I will archive all proofs for future orders, but due to space constraints on my website and computer I have to clear them out, preserving proofs by other methods, in order to make room for other sessions.
I recommend that maternity sessions take place between 32 and 36 weeks.
I highly recommend that you have your new baby photographed within the first two weeks to better capture those sleepy newborn poses. At around 3 weeks, newborns sleep less and are therefore less willing to be posed, so you may not get the photos you desire, but of course I will photograph at any age. If you are interested in a newborn session, please contact me during your pregnancy to let me know of your interest and to provide your due date. Please call or email me in the first week after birth, since there is a limited window to photograph newborns.
Weddings and Engagement Sessions
I am asked all the time about doing weddings, but for now I do not do weddings. I will, however, do engagement sessions!
